People Perish Without a Vision
It's an old, old proverb, you know, from the book of Proverbs. The more literal translation is that people without direction, purpose, or vision stand naked. The King has no clothes, except in this case it could be updated to, the Republican party has no clothes. The Republican party crashed and burned in 2008 because it offered to vision or hope to the people.
Throughout the last sixty days, I kept wondering if there would be a commitment to positive campaigning that John McCain had promised. But like the Obama, "I will take public funding" promise, McCain's promise went for naught as well. Led by the flag-waving conservative stalwarts, Sean Hannity and El Rushbo, all that was offered the electorate was comments on how BAD the Democrats are. How terrible mistake liberals are. And how radical Obama was.
People get tired of hearing the same stale stuff every day. And even on election day, the DrudgeReport who would flash a negative Obama headline in the drop of a hat couldn't wait to make mention that Louis Farrakhan and William Ayers voted at the SAME precint that Obama did. Can you imagine that? I mean these three guys voted in the same physical building. Isn't that they way it works folks? Don't people in the same neighborhood vote at the same place?
It seems the Republican party and those alingned with their interests couldn't get enough of Jeremiah Wright and all things that go bump in the night.
So, what did the Republican party and John McCain stand for? Well, they're mavericks! And? Tell me how that benefits me. Tell me what the end game in Iraq is other than keeping on keeping on. In this pluralistic world, tell me how we're going to live togther in such a diverse environment, instead of a fancy sounding slogan like "Country First"! I love America; however, I as an American need the help of every nation to solve global problems.
It's a big world getting smaller every day. Know what I mean Gene? :-)
We are ONE! And unless we UNITE, no ONE can live at peace. Obama got that. Whether or not he can deliver or not is another thing. But, it was a positive message of HOPE and not the sslanderous, trash your opponent, because you've got nothing to offer. I am sure that the Republican party will retool, find some bright young stars (can you spell PALIN?) with a vision for the future and give it a go in 2010, and 2012.
The lesson for us all is simply. Be positive! Offer hope. And lay off the bad-mouthing whoever disagrees with you. Enough already with the divisiveness. Having said that. The burden of proof to deliver the goods is now laid at the door step of the Democratic party. Let's pray they don't drop the ball.
