As someone who once received the highest Civics exam score in
the State of Florida, it's always fun to watch a mainline
political party set itself up for a devastating political
defeat. The Democrats seem to be living in some sort of weird
Jimmy Carterland bubble that exists only in the context of a
1970's alternative reality. In that reality, Carter has saved
the world by joining it. It was Jimmy who managed to defeat the
Soviets by building more habitat for humanity homes and making
sure that ...

THE ELEPHANT ROARED AND BROUGHT FORTH A TURD! 'A Case Against
Democratizing the Middle East
The original vulgarity was bylined: 'The Constipation of
America's Mid-East Peace Policy!
It is with some trepidation that I embark upon this discourse;
for one, out of respect for elephants, but more so because
within the American framework of democracy I have so greatly
benefited. Thus, to liken the extension of America's efforts to
democratize the civil administrations of Moslem states'even with
the ...

A popular political party that rose to tremendous power in the
20th century, the Republican party redefined the nation's
political agenda and dramatically reshaped the role of
government in the private lives of its citizens.
The resilience of the party was observed throughout such morally
testing times as the Nixon resignation and the Iran-Contra
affair hearings. The party was symbolized by an elephant and
possessed the animal-like quality of stubbornness that was often
imitated but never ...

ON THE ROAD TO DAMASCUS
Syria has become a priority target of US/Israeli preemption in
the War on Terrorism. The recent Mosul homicide bomber only
validates the Syrian connection, as far as US military
strategists are concerned. Our last blog highlighted how neocon
policy makers and think tanks (both in America and in Israel)
have sought to 'deterrorize' the region.
The effort at Mideast reconfiguration on the part of these
strategists has been to defang Saddam Hussein first, ...

Changing the Tone By Scott C. Smith
'The spirit of cooperation I have seen in this hall is what is
needed in Washington, D.C. It is the challenge of our moment.
After a difficult election, we must put politics behind us and
work together to make the promise of America available for every
one of our citizens. I am optimistic that we can change the tone
in Washington, D.C.' -- President George W. Bush, speech, Dec.
13, 2000. 'That background may lack the polish of Washington.
Then again, I don't ...

HOWARD DEAN'S BIG FAT MOUTH
By Doug Krieger
'The only time I open my mouth is when I exchange feet . . .
man, we've gone from Deep Throat to Dean's throat in the space
of one week!'
These and other hilarious comments have been made of the
hysterical doctor from Vermont of late who, as DNC Chairman, is
determined to make wedge politics a thing of the present
Democratic Party in its attempt to widen the already polarized
American ...

Kyrgyzstan's swift and sudden revolution happened almost before
one could have managed to pronounce this obscure country's name.
The chaos in the country where activists chased away their
ruling leaders show a country coming to terms with a colonial
past and on a quest to find a new identity. Despite the looting
and the ' tempered- violence, the initial reading of this
revolution is that the catharsis might preclude a positive
outcome. Not so much only for this tiny country, but ...

If democracy is any more up for a redefinition anywhere, now
would be the time and the Middle East would be the place. Events
in Iraq and the elections of the Palestians had a contageous
effect in other Middle Eastern countries too. For the first time
in at least 50 years, we see grassroots demand for updated
versions of democracy in countries that have long been dominated
by authoritarian regimes; Egyptians have been demanding to be
allowed a multi party system, in Lebanon the fall of a ...

The recent scathing remarks by High Court Judge Richard Mawrey
over the disgraceful actions of the six Labour councillors from
Birmingham is something the city could well do without. The
Judge went as far as to say that the recent electoral fraud
would disgrace even a banana republic.
It transpires that the vote rigging was part of an organised
campaign to steal, forge and/or alter thousands of postal votes
to ensure that Labour did not suffer from another backlash
against it over the Iraq war. ...
